Yoga Nidra

YOGA NIDRA

Yoga Nidra is a method of deep relaxation. It was created by Swami Satyananda Saraswati - the founder of the Bihar School of Yoga in India.

Relaxing under the guidance of the instructor leading the Yoga Nidra session, you do not fall asleep: your awareness makes a remarkable journey through the body, relaxing every cell and returning it to a state of rest and inner harmony.

Yoga Nidra brings the mind to the borderline state between sleep and waking, and is practised lying on the back in the posture yogis call savasana. Three states of consciousness are commonly known: waking, sleep with dreams, and deep sleep without dreams.
Yoga Nidra makes it possible to reach a fourth state of consciousness - the intermediate one - between sleep and waking, and to remain in it for a long time. This state of superconsciousness is called turiya.

In Yoga Nidra the body sleeps while the mind stays awake. It allows you to release and "dissolve" the blocks and tensions that lie hidden deep in the subconscious and stand in the way of reaching our goals.

With regular practice you can reach results previously out of reach in the development of your capacities - intellectual, creative, spiritual - in quietening the mind, increasing vital energy, improving health, recovering from illness and much else besides.

Through Yoga Nidra the body restores itself. One hour spent in Yoga Nidra is equal to three or four hours of full, deep sleep.

Yoga Nidra is particularly recommended for people who suffer from stress, fear, tension, intrusive thoughts, insomnia and other disharmonies.
