Riga Circus (formerly the Salamonsky Circus), Merķeļa iela
The Riga Circus building on Merķeļa iela was built in 1888 to a design by the architect Jānis-Frīdrihs Baumanis. The street was formerly called Paulucci iela, and the circus itself was the Salamonsky Circus.
Albert Salamonsky was a circus performer by family tradition, an entrepreneur and a director. He founded not only the Riga circus but also the Moscow one, known today as the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.
A photograph from the 1920s survives: the Salamonsky Circus on Paulucci iela.
