When and How to Meditate?

28.10.2009

Meditation should be practised regularly, for at least twenty minutes to one hour every day. In time the length of the meditation can be increased further.

It is good to begin by meditating at the same time of day and in the same place. Once you begin to see that what matters is the inner state, then any time and any place will do for meditation.

Meditation can be done in any comfortable seated position in which the back is held as upright as possible. The legs should be crossed or folded, the palms brought together, and the eyes - closed. This helps to contain the inner energy by removing any leak or drain of energy outwards.

The usual wandering of the mind should be stopped at once, whenever it arises, and the attention brought back again and again to the activity you have chosen, that is, to consciously following the breath.

Instead of thinking too much about how to begin and when to begin, simply follow your breath - and your journey in meditation has already begun!
