Yoga Meditation

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation - it is freedom from thought. It is a state of pure consciousness without the contents that fill it. It is the activation of the natural activity of "witnessing", of the "higher Self" or "Consciousness". It is the finest and most subtle way of increasing your personal energy by connecting to the Source. Meditation is the key that unlocks the mystery of being. It is a perfect method for entering altered states of consciousness in which it is possible to perceive alternative vibrating universes, all of which exist at one and the same time. Meditation is easy and not difficult at all. It is a skill that can be mastered through regular practice. Meditation begins, for the most part, with anapanasati, which means holding all your attention and awareness on the natural process of your breathing alone. In Pali, the language in which the Buddhist scriptures are written, "ana" means "in-breath", "apana" means "out-breath", and "sati" means "to be one with". Meditation is neither prayer, nor the repetition of a mantra, nor contemplation. In meditation you do not repeat any mantra; no form of a deity and no external guru is involved; nor is there any pranayama practice such as holding the breath, that is, kumbhaka.
