The Straw Museum (Salmu muzejs) in Tukums

<p>The Straw Museum in Tukums is the only museum of its kind in Latvia. It is the family passion of Juris and Kristīne Zihamane-Ritini.</p>
<p>More than 500 exhibits can be seen in the museum, among them several themed collections: gnomes, dragons, birds, little witches, mushrooms and exotic animals. There are large sculptures too - a "Puss in Boots" 3 metres tall and a mother mushroom 2.3 metres tall.</p>
<p>A straw workshop also operates here, where anyone interested can try their own hand and be taught to make toys out of straw. Original handmade straw souvenirs can be bought as a keepsake. Photographing the exhibits inside the buildings is not allowed.</p>
<h3>Getting there and what to keep in mind</h3>
<p>Tukums is only 67 km from the centre of Rīga, and it is easy to get there by car or by train. The ticket desk at the Straw Museum takes cash only.</p>
