Roja

Roja is a homely, quiet seaside village on the Kurzeme coast, a place to rest by the sea, to walk the nature trails and to visit the museum.

The beach at Roja is one of the best-equipped in Latvia: its extensive system of wooden boardwalks is fully accessible to everyone, including people in wheelchairs and parents with prams. The village also has a pier to walk along.

Roja has a sea fishing museum. Its displays cover the history of the village, the age of sailing ships, the well-known fishing collective farm "Banga" and the making of tinned fish - the "Roja delicacy". A separate display is devoted to Krišjānis Valdemārs, thanks to whom Latvia's first maritime school appeared here, and another to the history of fish processing from the 19th century to the present day. The museum tells the story of Roja and of the people connected with it and with the Livonian coast. On the ground floor there is an exhibition hall where various exhibitions are held regularly.

Roja also has a nature trail along the Roja river. Another interesting place is the stony beach at Kaltene, with very beautiful views.

As of 2022, a large fishermen's festival was held in Roja every summer.
