<p>Riga's Second City Hospital was founded in 1910 with 132 places. Its buildings were designed by the architect R. Šmēlings.</p><p>From 1931 to 1958 the institution was headed by the surgeon and academician Pauls Stradiņš. In 1958 it was given his name, which it still carries today: Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital (Paula Stradiņa Klīniskā universitātes slimnīca).</p><p>The archive photograph shows the hospital as it looked in the 1920s.</p>
